Converting / Changing Product Codes

What are these?

This is a central list of products which the system stores and you maintain, this allows you to hold a single product code/description/dimension which can then be added to the customers' products as and when that customer needs to store the product.

When are they used?

When you have multiple customers storing and using the same stock items and you want consistency in the setup and ease of identification.

How does it work?

You select the option to use "System Product Codes" within the customer maintenance form, this means next time they add a product they will be asked for key information to identify the product from the System product table, you select that product from the system product table and it will then be added to the customers product table allowing you to customise it for that customer (usually for charging and customer-specific information purposes).Whilst you can do this yourself one by one you can only change a product code to another which does not already exist.

Bulk changes of the codes are possible as are merging codes, however this is not available to end users and we offer a service to change the codes.

Tip

Contact Customer Services to arrange this OR log a ticket in the RFC for Data changes.

We will provide a spreadsheet which your customer will complete and we will alter the codes, the turnaround of this needs to be fast to be effective otherwise you will not be able to change all the products and each time it is run there would be a charge.

The Ontech team offer the ability to bulk load customers, there would be a charge for carrying out this service but please speak to the customer services team for more information.

Note

Some fields can only be set at the time of a new product creation. Please ensure that you have the details correct before saving the product for the first time.
