Printer

Warehousing uses network printers for a number of key functions in the system

  • Delivery notes

  • Picking notes

  • Labels

These printers are required to be located on your network with their own fixed IP addresses; the WMS will print to these directly from the server through the VPN to your network.

You can assign fixed IP addresses using EITHER :
static addresses on the device OR you can assign a static address to be issued by your DHCP controller

New Printers being added need 5 working days notice to allow time for our tech team to add the printer and ensure it can be seen from the server.

MOVING THE PRINTER

If your printer moves to a new network which could be a different site then you will normally change the IP address on the printer for the new site. This will need to be updated on the Vision server just prior to the move to allow the printer to continue printing once it moves to its new location and has its new address.

You need to provide 5 working days notice to make this change as it will have to be carried out by the Vision Technical Team.

These key functions are either used for FLEX or they are used by automated services which send print jobs to the printers independent of the users.

Other printers should be visible as redirect printers when you are provided with the printer list, this means that they are using Microsoft RDP to provide you with your local printers whilst using the server.

Setup Options

Site

The site code where this printer resides, allows us to limit the choices when we are asking which printer to send the print job to.

Labels Only?

Predominantly used by flex to show only label printers when you are printing a label from flex. However is being used to stop those printers from being displayed in printer choices when they are not applicable.

Friendly Name

Pick a good name, avoid peoples names or generic, when you have multiple sites it is worthwhile having the site code.

e.g.

SN_DeliveryNotes_82
We suggest you append the end of the IP address to this as it makes it faster to find out the network address

Network Path

The server path to the printer it is ususally

\\<servername>\<shareprintername> OR

<shareprintername>

Avoid using direct IP addresses in this column it should be the shared printer name from the server. Should you add the printer IP directly into this field Vision will try to print directly and if this does not work there is NOTHING stored and no log and no information so always use the server network share name.
