The ATWD (Alcohol Tobacco Warehousing Declarations) allows the submission of declarations of Excise Duty payments to HMRC electronically for Alcohol or Tobacco goods in the format of W5, W5D, W6, and W6D files.

The ATWD Processing functionality is for:

  • The submission and processing of Alcohol and Tobacco remittances warrant documents to HMRC generated as a part of Day End Processing.

  • Dealing with any rejections of W5, W5D, W6, W6D files and re-submitting to HMRC

If you need to Manually Submit W5Ds via the HMRC Gateway, you can indicate that they have already been manually submitted by selecting the W5Ds using the Checkbox to the left of each row and clicking the Manually Submitted button.

Any ATWD submissions that fail can be seen in the Failures screen.

A failure with the reason “Authentication Failed: Invalid Credentials” normally means you are trying to defer VAT to a VAT Number where either a C1027 does not exist or where Customs have not properly entered it on their system.
