Installing Flex on a Device

...

Flex app is either installed by the Vision support team and the device will be shipped back to you or we

...

will provide you with all the installation instructions

...

you need so that you can give it a go. It is a fairly

...

simple process but you have to install the application and then

...

configure the device in order for it to work. To learn how to install the application on your device please click here: Installation, Registration & User setup

Info

If you purchase the devices from Ontech we will not charge for the installation, if you try to install yourself and you need our help with a new device there will be a charge for this as it is outside the scope of the support agreement.

Flex Update

The Auto Update

...

This will occur automatically upon the next logon to the device after the server has upgraded.

Tip

If your device has not logged off then LOG OFF and then LOGON again which will start the upgrade process

When using the auto-upgrade for Flex you will need to do the following:

  1. Logout of flex

  2. Login to flex - You will then be told you are using an old version (x.x) and you will be asked to upgrade.

  3. Click on Yes - System will then download a file, it will show the progress

  4. It will then ask to be installed, you say yes to install.

  5. Once installed it will close flex

After this happens you need to open FLEX again - Logon to flex version, the version number will change for example (v1.8.1 to v1.9.0)

...

will occur only if you’ve enabled the auto-update option for Flex App in your device’s Play Store. Ontech publishes the latest versions to the Play Store that is compatible with the older versions of Warehousing. An update to your Flex server component may be required which we generally provide prior to releasing the Play store update. This is applicable to the device running v1.17.4 or higher.

Do the following for updating the Flex app in Play Store:

  1. Open the Play Store on your device.

  2. Go to your user profile.

  3. Press the “Manage apps and device” option.

  4. Press the “See details” option below the “updates available”.

  5. From the list of apps find if Flex is available for a new update, then press the Update button. The update will begin.

Note

You will be able to use the system with an old version but

...

it will eventually

...

show errors and the recovery possibility might be an issue.

Note

Logoff until v1.12 is set to keep the user logged onto the device until they logoff, this is being removed and each day it will ask for a username and password this will ensure that if an upgrade happens that the device has to be logged on where the auto upgrade will just happen.

Problems with Auto Update

Warning

This is no longer supported or used, we must publish on the play store now.

If you received a failed installer message after you click Yes or it just closing the application, there is some setting that needs to be changed on your device.

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Applications and Notifications

  3. Advanced (bottom)

  4. Special App Access

  5. Find “Install Unknown apps”

  6. You should see flex, select this and allow from this source

  7. Then go back to step 2 again

Once you have changed this for the first time, all future auto-upgrades will be fine
