Printer Requirements
There is a requirement for selected printers to be loaded onto the main server (server network printers), this is because those printers are used to print through through services on the server.
e.g. rotation and delivery labels, delivery notes, tasting notes, efullfillment paperwork.
Other printers in general will work through RDP Printing (Remote Desktop) but such printers are outside the control of Vision, once a print job is sent to the listed redirected printer it is within the Microsoft application and subject to your PC or network controls.
What are RDP (Remote Desktop) Printers
You will be able to print to your own local printers by using those available through RDP (Remote Desktop) these printers are usually outside of the control of Vision but generally work if you are using a supported version of the operating system.
These printers will appear on the printer list as (redirect from…….)
There are many reasons why these will not work properly but usually it is the following issues
It is a label printer
Your pc is restricting printing
Your remote desktop settings are not set correctly.
Your network domain has a restriction on using such printers
Your printer is not supported by the operating system (e.g. age or printer drivers)
This type of printing is outside the scope of the support team for Vision, whilst we can see the print job being added to the queue beyond this we would need to support your network in order to resolve any issues. The vision support team do not offer network support.
Try printing to another alternative printer if it works then it is definitely not a Vision issue and you should involve your own IT support people
Server Network Printer Connectivity
Printers which are to be setup on the server require good connectivity with the network. Each printer is provided its own unique IP address and the server communicates directly with this printers IP address.
Your network provider will setup your printers and ensure that they can be seen through the VPN from the server.
Cabled v Wifi
Cabled is through a network cable direct to your network, this is the preferred choice.
Wifi Network Printers
You can have these but they do present issues from time to time if the wifi network is not good, this results in pages being missed or printed missing data so we would always recommend a cabled printer.
Server Printers
Laser Printers
most laser printers operate with no issues, common printers which we know will work are
Lexmark
HP
We regularly come across compatibility issues with
OKI
Kyocera
Â
Label Printers
These are used for rotation labels, despatch labels, and courier labels
For long term labelling use the thermal transfer option avoid direct thermal printing as this fades after several months but is ideal for delivery notes.
We would recommend the following
ZD421 ideal for small amounts of printing
ZT510 / 105SL Plus is ideal for enterprise level printing.
Setup of Printers
The following information is required from the customer to allow us to configure the printers, the minimum would be one printer for A4 printing of delivery notes and a further label printer for rotation labels, despatch labels
Â
Make of printer
Model of printer
IP Address (for the printer)
What the printer will be used for
