Product Group
This field plays a fundamental part in many of the controls for the goods in and goods out for products, in order to reduce setup time and ease configuration. Each product group has a number of options set which are then used within Create Product, Goods Inwards, and Stock Picking.
This form is used to create, edit, or view Product Group.
Product groups are used in a variety of ways within the system:
To determine standard pack sizes.
To show which needs to use the high-value procedures.
To simplify the entry of the gross weight from the net.
To specify delivery discounts/surcharges for the physical to invoice case charging method.
To omit a product from a delivery note, but leave it on a picking note.
The options shown in the above image are explained below:
Option | Notes |
---|---|
High Value | Determines whether the product will use the high-value process when despatching the goods. Or it may be marked on the inbound paperwork to help you separate this from standard goods arriving. |
UOM | Unit of Measure for this product group |
Gross Multiplier | Will take the net weight and provide an estimate for the gross weight figure. e.g. Standard Wine is 1.8x , Wood and Champagne is around 2.3x, Soft Drinks around 1.1x |
Gross Greater Than Net Weight | Ensures that the gross weight is always more than the net weight. |
Sort Order | Where will this item appear on the list, it is is used all the time then set to 1 and it will appear as the first item. |
SPC / CPL / CPP / SS | When adding a new product with this group set it will help the user by setting some of the fields. Singles per case, Cases per Layer, Cases per Pallet, and Single Size. The READ only option stops the user from being able to change the field when setting up a product. e.g. Bulk Stocks or Single items such as mixed cases or where wine/ spirits are not involved. |
Dimensions Mandatory | Ability to capture dimensions on certain products (groups) mandatory when the goods are received. |
BBD Mandatory | The Best Before Date is Mandatory when goods are received for this group. |
Auto Freeze Receipts for QA | Will automatically freeze all stocks upon receipt for QA purposes. e.g. Manufacturing/ production |
Auto Condition Report | Will force the item upon receipt to be added to the condition report queue, and will only allow the product to be located in the condition report location. |
Production Date Required | Makes production date mandatory for this product upon receipt, would suggest to use with hand held FLEX system only. |
Transport Adjustment | All items in this product group will use this to calculate the invoice cases amount. e.g. a 50% discount (-) would shows 6 physical cases being charged as 3 invoice cases |
Omit On Delivery Note | This product is purely for picking, so will not appear on a delivery note (Your delivery note needs to support this). e.g. Packaging material, and marketing box add-ins. |
External Carrier Fragile | When using a parcel carrier some allow a fragile flag to be sent, this would send that flag. |
Picking → Prioritise layers & Pick note sequence | Ability to define the picking sequence on picking notes and flex with the new Product Group fields ‘Pick note sequence’ and ‘Prioritise layers’. For customers wishing to continue ordering picks the same way they always have, leave the 'Pick note sequence' empty and ‘Prioritise layers’ un-ticked. |
Examples
Single Item product
This is an example of “Single items which are not cased or palletised”.
Gross Multiplier → As the product has no or limited packaging, any net weight is the same as gross.
Product Dimensions → The item is a single item, with no pallets cases or size, all fields would be set to one and it would be best to mark all as read-only to stop you from accidentally changing them when you create a product.
Ultra Value Wine Item
This is for a fine wine article which arrives in a case on a pallet.
High Value → This is ticked to push the item into the high-value process which could be marked on the goods inwards for separate put away or outbound process to double check.
Gross Multiplier → The net weight and gross weight are different, UV wines tend to be in wooden cases so a 9-litre case of wine will weigh roughly 2.1x9 so we will default the field from this.
Product dimensions → Not marked as read-only, so can be changed at product creation but will populate the product dimensions with these default values which are the most common.
Auto Condition Report → When these goods arrive at the warehouse we need them to condition report and they will be pushed towards the location for condition reporting (photography).
